Welcome to another edition of Memory Cards and Superpowers. Let's begin!
The editors of this site love Age of Empires 2: Age of Kings, so it is no suprise that I'm not ready for the sequel of
this game. This is great!
Will Eisner, innovator and influential comic creator, died on Jan. 3, 2005. Eisner will be remembered for breaking the
creative mold in the comic book industry through innovative stories and being the first person to produce a graphic novel.
My prayers and wishes go to his family.
Sports Names Go Exclusive
Recently, EA made some deals so they can use the
NFL,
AFL, and
ESPN-for their games only. Then, Take-Two reveals they now have the
MLB license for their games only-except for first-party developers. Now, this may seem to be cool, but it hurts the gamers in
the end.
Think about it. By giving EA or Take-Two exclusive rights to different sports franchises, it leaves an open hole for
a console to be excluded. Let's say EA does not like the profits for the Gamecube edition of Madden and decides there is no
way for them to continue making a Gamecube version of the game and they only publish the game for the every other system.
Normally, this would leave a nice position for a developer to make a game for the NFL-loving gamers who have a Gamecube except
one problem-EA owns the rights for the NFL. Yeah, another non-NFL game could be made for the system, but for those gamers
who want to play an NFL football game lose when all is said and done. And what about those who liked ESPN NFL 2K5? What about
them?
Maybe it is just me, but I'm concerned over this. Giving more power to one company to produce a sports franchise can
only seem to hurt gamers in the end. At least Take-Two allows first-party groups like Sony and Nintendo to make baseball games
for their systems.
EA Sports Big has announced that it has granted one of my wishes-have Mario and his crew play against NBA players. Can
it get any better?
Yeah.....it can get better. The only downside is that is only coming out in Japan-for now.
