Memory Cards and Superpowers 11-Sprung,Media Attention on Comics and more!

by alexross422003

alexross422003 returns to give his opinions on video games and comic books! alexross422003 investigates the effects of Sprung, discusses the national media attention of Green Arrow and other comics and more!

Hey guys!

I'm back from a long break and now it is time to start the column!

$150? Built-in Picto-Chat? Metroid Prime:Hunters Demo? Sweet.

Around the launch of the DS, Ubisoft will publish a game called Sprung. The reason I'm even metioning Sprung is because it's a dating sim. Yes, a dating sim. Since this is probably the first portable dating sims (yet alone one of the few, if any), what reaction will this have on the gaming community? I'll simulate a conversation at a local mall where two gamers are talking to each other, but one has just gone to the local gaming store to buy something. Let's take a look:

Gamer 1-Hey man!
Gamer 2-Hey! What's up?
Gamer 1-Nothing much. What's in the bag?
Gamer 2-Oh, nothing.
Gamer 1-Looks like DS handheld game is in there. What is it?
Gamer 2-Lay off!
(Gamer 1 grabs the bag and Gamer 2 tries to get it back)
Gamer 2-Let go!
(A game drops out and Gamer 1 picks it up)
Gamer 1-Let's see.......Dang......you bought Sprung?!
Gamer 2-It's not what it looks like!
Gamer 1-Looks like someone is a little lonely.

Two words:guilty pleasure.

Hey kids! In 2005, FIFA Street will hit store shelves! Ok...so what's next....PGA Street?

After a week of waiting for details on this game...it turns out....that the developer gave barely any details on Viewtiful Joe for the DS. Oh well, thanks for raising my hopes.

In January, Image will be publishing a Freedom Force comic! Now, I like the game, but I'm worried about the overall quality of the writing in the comic. Best of luck to the guys!

On November 16, legions of people with extremly powerful computers and Half-Life fans will buy....Half-Life 2. Now for the rest of the gaming community, you can A). Upgrade your computer, B) Wait for the Xbox version or C). Do nothing!

Over the past few years, there a few instances of comics actually making it into the mainstream media. Those few instances happen to be about a homesexual cowboy or a black Captain America that are having comic books. Now, Green Arrow's sidekick has HIV and well....everyone is talking about it.

Now here are some possible reasons why the media would cover these stories:
-Shows how far our society has come.
-It stirs controversy.
-.....I can't think of anything else.

Okay, here is the big question: Why are quality comics by the mainstream? Think about it. Comics like Runaways, HERO, and The Waiting Place, all quality titles, are ignored by the mainstream media. Now, this may just be a complaint about the lack of attention of comics in general, but why should the moves mentioned at the top of the column receive all the recognition. Sure the media will attract people to the comic, but when all is said and done, the quality of the comic will either bring or lose people from that comic.

To clarify one more time, I'm not against having diverse characters in comics, just that there should be more focus on quality that what a character's background is. Maybe in ten years, everything will change. "sigh".

There goes HERO....
For those who haven't heard, HERO 22 will be the last issue for the series. Another quality comic cancelled.

See ya later!
