During his run writing the X-Men, Grant Morrison has brought new ideas that have never been explored in an X-Men
comic. So when Morrison decided to leave, the people at Marvel decided to start in a brand new direction. This meant that
new writers, new artists, new ideas, and yes....new costumes would be seen in the X-titles.
The centerpiece of this revolves around the fact that Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and Angel) would
join John Cassaday for a 12 issue run on the new X-title, Astonishing X-Men. This is probably the most promising title from
the X-Men: Reload event. Other notables include:
- DistrictX, where the X-man, Bishop, works the streets of a town in New York, called Mutant Town, where the majority of
the residents are mutants.
- New X-Men:Academy X, where students at Xavier's are put into different "teams" and must choose sides.
Again it is nice to see Marvel try some different ideas in their comics, but that does not mean there are problems.

Josh Whedon's run on X-Men promises to bring new ideas that have not been explored in the X-titles. |
Writers Chris Claremont and Chuck Austen are taking over the X-titles. Now this would not seem like a big deal, but
for an event that promises change in the X-titles why would these guys be writing the rest of the core X-titles
when they have that job for a few years!? I have a hard time with the return of costumes to the X-titles. Some of the new
costumes work well, while others just seem a little ridiculous.
It's too early to judge whether this event will make the X-Men a better franchise or not. I can tell you that I
am excited for these changes to be in effect. Hopefully, Marvel will not fail at this task.
